A Couple of Things You Didn’t Know About Head & Shoulders

Here at TBB we like to get to the bottom of things…. so here are a couple of things that I bet you didn’t know about Anti-Dandruff haircare brand Head & Shoulders.

1.) The brand is 50 years old this year.

2.) It is the #1 selling haircare brand not only in the UK but GLOBALLY.

3.) 29 Million bottles of Head & Shoulders are sold per year.

4.) The amazingly coiffed session hairstylist Peter Lux is the Head & Shoulders Creative Director.

5.) Dandruff (built-up, over produced dead skin cells) is caused by a fungus present not only in the air but on everyone’s scalp. It naturally feeds on the sebum produced by your hair follicles and secretes a chemical that aggravates your scalp. Only the people who are more susceptible to the fungus have the side affects.

6.) Common cures for dandruff before Head & Shoulders was created in the 50s were: cider vinegar, lemon juice and some brands of mouth wash!

7.) H&S has 13 different collections globally (of which 11 are availabel in the UK.)

8.) H&S contains an active ingredient called zinc pyrithione that wards off dandruff and also contains surfacants that remove excess dirt and sebum.

9.) Using H&S shampoo is NOT ENOUGH! Regular conditioners simply wash off the active ingredients deposited by the H&S Shampoo so you must use the H&S Conditioner that also contains the active ingredient.

10.) Head & Shoulders does use parabens, but it strongly defends its stance on the use of parabens as being safe and effective ingredients.

11.) Finally, Head & Shoulders has been given the stamp of approval by the rigorous British Skin Foundation investigator, which in our books is pretty impressive.

Not got dandruff? No matter – the shampoos are strengthening and conditioning and prevent dandruff from developing. Good news.
